MANILA — Multi-talented television and film director Gilbert Perez, 48, died last Wednesday night at St. Luke’s Medical Center.
Manong Gilbert, as he was fondly called by friends and co-entertainment workers, passed away at 10 p.m. He failed to recover from the heart attack he had suffered last July 1 on the set of his new drama series in ABS-CBN.
He was rushed to the hospital by Jericho Rosales –- lead star of the series Manong Gilbert is directing — where he immediately underwent an angioplasty surgery.
Manong Gilbert already finished shooting the scenes of Jericho and Malaysian actress Carmen Soo drama series “A Time For Us” in Malaysia just recently. He is supposed to continue shooting other scenes here in the country.
Reports said that some of the director’s colleagues from the industry held a fund raising event last July 10 for his hospitalization.
Manong Gilbert is one of the pillars of ABS-CBN and its film arm Star Cinema. He directed several movies for the said outfits namely “Dreamboy,” “Trip,” “Jologs” and “Supah Papaliciuos.”
He also directed some episodes of longest running drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya” and other ABS-CBN series “Bituing Walang Ningning,” “Super Inggo,” “Super Inggo 1.5: Ang Bagong Bangis,” “Maging Sino Ka Man Book 2,” and “Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara.” (JRDB/Sunnex)
